Exciting New Partnerships Propel Shrimp Welfare

While many of us are celebrating summer, feel free to submerge yourself into the August 2024 edition of the SWP newsletter where we are excited to announce two new partnerships that mark significant strides in our Humane Slaughter Initiative. 

We are thrilled to partner with both Taprobane Seafoods and Seafood Connection, as well as Thong Thuan Seafood and Young’s by Sofina. Both sets of companies have committed to maintaining high welfare standards throughout their operations, including optimal water quality, responsible feeding practices, and regular health monitoring. These partnerships highlight the growing industry recognition that commercial viability and ethical practices can go hand in hand, benefiting not only shrimps but also the communities and ecosystems that rely on this vital industry.

SWP is delighted to announce a partnership with Taprobane Seafoods, Sri Lanka's largest shrimp producer, and Seafood Connection.

Taprobane Seafoods will integrate humane electrical stunning technology into their production chain, demonstrating their dedication to sustainable and ethical aquaculture. Seafood Connection, known for its stringent quality standards and responsible sourcing, also joins us in prioritising stunned shrimps, reinforcing their commitment to ethically produced seafood. 

Together, these partnerships set a new industry benchmark, significantly advancing our efforts to improve shrimp welfare worldwide and fostering positive change across communities and ecosystems dependent on shrimp farming.

We are equally excited to announce the partnership with Thong Thuan Seafood, a leading Vietnamese shrimp producer, and Young’s by Sofina, a major UK seafood supplier. 

Thong Thuan will implement electrical stunning technology to ensure the most humane slaughter of shrimps, significantly reducing stress and suffering. Young’s by Sofina, under their Fish for Life initiative, has committed to sourcing shrimps from Thong Thuan's humanely stunned stock and continues to uphold high welfare standards across their operations.

This partnership showcases the perfect blend of commercial viability and ethical practices, setting new benchmarks in the industry. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to drive positive change for shrimp welfare.
